Voice Mode is available on paid plans. It needs a browser that allows microphone access. To speak a message instead of typing it, use voice dictation.
Start a voice conversation
1
Select Use Voice Mode
In the composer, select Use Voice Mode, the sound-wave button next to the microphone. You can start from a new chat or from a chat you already have.
2
Choose a voice
The call bar replaces the composer. Select the voice name to choose a different voice before you start.
3
Select Start conversation
Select Start conversation. If your browser asks for permission, allow microphone access.
4
Start talking
When the bar says Ready when you are or Listening, speak normally.
Talk naturally
- Babbily lets you finish. It waits until you’re done speaking before it answers.
- Cut in any time. Start talking while Babbily is speaking, and it stops and listens.
- Mute when you need to. Select Mute microphone in the call bar. The bar shows Microphone muted until you turn it back on.
- Follow the status. The call bar tells you what’s happening: Connecting…, Listening, Thinking…, or Speaking.
Get answers that need a lookup
Ask about the weather, the news, a stock price, or anything that needs a search. Babbily hands lookups and detailed questions to your chat model, then tells you the answer.- With a named model, the model you chose handles the lookups.
- With Auto, Auto picks one model when the call starts and keeps it for the whole call. Until you speak, the call shows Auto picks the model behind this call, then names the model it picked. After the call, Auto works as usual.
Follow the transcript
- In a new chat, the transcript fills the page above the call bar as you talk. Before anyone speaks, it shows Let’s talk.
- In an existing chat, the conversation is added to that chat as you talk.
- See what’s being said. Spoken replies carry a Voice label, and the word Babbily is saying right now is highlighted.
- Catch up quickly. If you scroll back, select Jump to latest to return to the newest words.
End the call
Select End in the call bar, or press Esc when you’re not typing in a field. The conversation opens as a regular chat with everything that was said, so you can keep going by typing. If playback is interrupted during a call, Babbily says so, and the answer is still in your transcript.Choose a voice
Babbily offers 31 voices, grouped in the voice picker:- North American English voices.
- English accents: Australian, British, Irish, Filipino, and Southern US English.
- Other languages: native voices for German, French, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi, Japanese, and Korean.
Ask about a News article or Finance page
Start Voice Mode from the composer on a News article or a Finance page to ask about what you’re reading. The call keeps the page’s context, so you can ask “what does this mean for the company?” without explaining what you’re looking at.- The page stays in view during the call. Instead of a transcript, Babbily shows only requests that need your answer, above the call bar.
- When you end the call, the conversation opens as a chat. If nothing was said, you stay on the page.
Approve requests during a call
Some actions, such as a Plugin action, need your approval. During a call, an approval card appears in the transcript, or above the call bar on a News or Finance page, and the bar says Review the request in your transcript or Review the request above. Answer the card before you end the call. Ending the call cancels a request that is still waiting. When a call is interrupted
- The connection drops. Babbily shows The connection dropped. Tap to continue. Select Continue to pick up where you left off.
- Babbily is reconnecting. The bar shows Reconnecting… while it tries to restore the call on its own.
- Nobody is talking. After three minutes of silence, Babbily asks Are you still there? Speak, or select I’m here, to keep the call going. Otherwise the call ends 30 seconds later with Voice ended after a few minutes of silence.
- Your chat or voice settings change. The call ends with Voice ended because your chat or voice settings changed. Open Voice Mode again to use the new settings. Leaving the page also ends the call.
Plans and usage
Voice Mode is part of the paid plans. On the Free plan, the voice button shows a lock and links to plans. Voice calls use your API usage budget:- If there isn’t enough budget to start, Babbily shows There isn’t enough AI allowance to start this voice conversation.
- If your budget runs out during a call, the call stops and shows There isn’t enough available AI allowance to continue voice. Select End voice to return to your chat.
